Sylt, Germany

Sylt is mainly a tourist attraction, famous for its healthy climate and the many German celebrities who own houses on the island.

The northernmost island of Germany, it is most esteemed for its popular tourist resorts (especially Westerland Kampen and Wenningstedt-Braderup), as well as its 40 km long sandy beach. Exposed to the harsh conditions of the North Sea, its ongoing loss of land during storm tides is a topic often covered in the media.

For some 40 years now Sylt has been considered the unofficial playground of the German jet set class with its abundance of high-end restaurants, designer boutiques, and luxury homes – all of which make for good eye-candy and a tantalizing vacation experience.

But there’s more to life than basking in the glow of the rich and famous when visiting Sylt, particularly the beach life.  The elegant beaches are perfect for cycling, taking a hiking tour, or if you prefer, a day of lounging.

On the West Coast of the island the strong wind from the North Sea makes for some excellent windsurfing, which is why each September the world’s best windsurfers meet here for the Surf World Cup final.
