Germany

Overview

Germany has a checkered history, following two world wars and the East/West division that followed.  Reunified in 1990 as the Federal Republic of Germany, the country is now a global superpower with the fourth biggest economy, and one of the highest standards of living in the world.

Modern day Germany is a great place to live and visit, with plenty to do and see all year round.

Sites to See

There are many sites to see when visiting Germany, ranging from the major cities to the pastoral experience of the spas and resorts along the North and Baltic Sea.

Visit Berlin for a taste of history and some incredible architecture, Munich for some beer (especially during Oktoberfest), Cologne for some culture, and Düsseldorf from some high living.

Famous German landmarks include the Berlin Wall (and Checkpoint Charlie), the Reichstag, and the Semperoper Saxon State Opera House.

Culture

Germany is famous for its culture.  In fact, many refer to Germany as Das Land der Dichter und Denker (the land of poets and thinkers).  While there you can enjoy any one of the hundreds of subsidized theaters or symphonic orchestras.  There are also literally thousands of museums, and more than 25,000 libraries open to the public.

Famous People

In terms of arts and culture, Germany has been a leader throughout modern times. Many famous composers hail from Germany including Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Richard Wagner.

There are also many famous German philosophers such as Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Hegel, Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzsche.

Casinos in Germany

There are numerous land-based casinos throughout Germany (over 70 in total).  The majority of these casinos are based in Hamburg, but you can gamble in other places throughout the country as well.  For example, in Düsseldorf you can go gaming along the Rhine at the Hotel Nikko Düsseldorf, or while in Berlin you can play at the Park Inn Hotel.  Take note however, a dress code is applied at most of these establishments.
